Sami is located in the east part of Kefalonia and is the head of the homonym municipality. It is a small seaside town built at the foot of the ancient Sami. It is located 22 km from Argostoli and is the most important shopping and tourist center as it is the biggest port of Cefalonia that connects the island with Patra, Ithaca and Italy.
Sami has many archaeological sites and attractions. There are more than 17 caves in the area, two of which can be visited. It is the Lake of Melissani in Karavomylos and the Cave of Drogarati in the village Haliotata. Other important sites of the area are the ruins of the Ancient Castle (Paliokastro) and the Monastery of Agrilia.
The area of Sami has some of the most beautiful beaches which can satisfy all demands. Near the town is located the impressive beach of Antisamos and the village Dixalia, that were selected as filming location for the movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. You can also swim in the beach of Karavomylos and in the bay of Agia Paraskevi.
