Kefalonia is connected to the mainland through several ports. The main of them are Patra and Kyllini, which can be reached either by car or by bus (KTEL-Greek Bus Operators). The buses operate daily routes from Athens and other major cities (Aigio, Argos, Arta, Volos, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Kalamata, Karditsa, Pyrgos, Halkida, Aidipso).
From the port of Patra, a daily route is performed to Sami, and five times a week an evening departure takes place. The trip takes 3.5 hours.
From the port of Kyllini departs daily a ferry to Poros and the trip takes 1.5 hour. While once a week, there is also a route to Argostoli and the trip takes 2-2.5 hours. The frequency of the departures differs the summer months.
The island is also connected to Astakos (Aitoloakarnania), Ithaca, Zakynthos, Nidri (Lefkada) and Paxos.
